The medicinesNI website was set up by the Northern Ireland Centre for Pharmacy Learning and Development (NICPLD) in 2007, at the request of DHSSPS, to provide eLearning for GPs, foundation doctors and nurses throughout Northern Ireland on the safe and effective use of medicines arising from the recommendations of the Shipman Inquiry.
With over 20 years experience in print-based and online learning, NICPLD offers over 1,200 hours of learning, annually, to pharmacists, trainee pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Multidisciplinary short courses are also provided for pharmacists, GPs and nurse prescribers.
In addition, NICPLD provides the vocational training programme for hospital pharmacists and trains all pharmacist prescribers in Northern Ireland. It also delivers mandatory training for pharmacist pre-registration trainees and, as part of workforce development, provides all accredited post-qualification training for pharmacy technicians.
Further details of its activities can be found on the NICPLD website.
